Copp signs one-year, $3.64 million contract with Jets, avoids hearing

Andrew Copp signed a one-year, $3.64 million contract with the Winnipeg Jets on Thursday.

The 27-year-old forward, who was a restricted free agent, avoided a salary arbitration hearing scheduled for Aug. 26.

Copp set NHL career-highs in goals (15), assists (24) and points (39) in 55 games for the Jets last season, and had two assists in eight Stanley Cup Playoff games.

Selected by Winnipeg in the fourth round (No. 104) of the 2013 NHL Draft, Copp has scored 149 points (61 goals, 88 assists) in 411 regular-season games and 12 points (three goals, nine assists) in 34 playoff games.

The Jets signed defenseman Neal Pionk to a four-year, $23.5 million contract ($5.875 million average annual value) on Wednesday. Pionk had an arbitration hearing scheduled for Friday.
